The best way

Leutasch in Tyrol

The natural paradise

Leutasch, one of the five villages in the Seefeld region, is located in the Leutasch Valley.

At 1,136 meters above sea level, Leutasch extends over a sunny high valley along the Wetterstein mountain range surrounded by a beautiful, extremely picturesque mountain backdrop. Thanks to its perfect location between the Wetterstein and the Gaistal, the Leutasch Valley is one of the most snow-sure regions in Austria in winter. In summer, the charismatic mountain region delights with its mild climate.

Natural idyll

The Leutasch Valley in Austria

Today, the alpine high region with its 24 hamlets stretches over 16 kilometers. But not so long ago, the high valley was still deserted. It was not until the 12th century that the idyllic Leutasch Valley was settled by people. In 1178, a Bavarian nobleman donated part of the forest to the Upper Bavarian Augustinian canon monastery of Polling near Weilheim. Exactly the part through which the Luitaske river flows, today's Leutasch.

A brisk clearing activity began at the end of the 12th century. This was done with such care and respect for nature and the cultural landscape that it is still evident today. The unique landscape with its mountains and hills, the vast expanses of forest and the winding country roads that connect the villages of the Seefeld region inspire with their natural idyll.

The alpine high valley of Leutasch

In the past, the people of Leutasch lived mainly from their meadows and forests, as Leutasch was long regarded as the „timber chamber“ of Innsbruck and Hall. Hunting went hand in hand with the region's wealth of forests. In the 19th century, the important hunting grounds attracted many famous hunting lords, such as the writer Ludwig Ganghofer, who made Leutasch famous far beyond the borders of the region. Works such as „Das Schweigen im Walde“ or „Der Edelweißkönig“ reflect Ganghofer's experiences in Leutasch. His descriptions are still considered an inspiration today and provide up-close impressions of the beautiful Leutasch Valley.

Lived traditions, modern zeitgeist and an awareness of nature that spans generations - this extraordinary mixture still characterizes the enchanting Leutasch with its dreamlike natural landscape today. Experience Tyrolean originality in its most beautiful form!
